Ours To Do: A Church Where People Belong

Aug 9, 2026    Rev. Michael East

Jesus asked an uncomfortable question at a dinner party full of the powerful and the privileged: "Who is missing?" He was not talking about seating arrangements. He was talking about the way we build our lives around people who can give something back to us -- and who we leave out in the process.

In Luke 14, Jesus tells a host to stop inviting the comfortable and start inviting the overlooked. Not to hand them a box of leftovers at the door, but to seat them at the table, serve them a meal, and treat them as honored guests.

This church has a real gift for making people feel known and loved. But the work is not finished. There are people in our city who have been told so often they do not belong that simply opening the door is not enough. The table is ready. There is still more room.
