Making Our Corner of the World
More Like the Kingdom of God

The Vision

Our vision is simple and deeply rooted: to make our corner of the world more like the kingdom of God.

That means we do more than simply gather on Sundays.  We live as a community shaped by the way of Jesus—welcoming the stranger, caring for the vulnerable, seeking justice, practicing mercy, and building relationships that reflect God’s love. From our place in the heart of Norman, we believe God is calling us to be a faithful presence for our neighbors, our city, and the university community just steps from our doors. Together, we are learning to become the kind of church that doesn’t just talk about good news, but helps people experience it.

Beliefs

Scripture
Scripture is central to our faith, and we read it with reverence, curiosity, and care. Because Scripture includes poetry, story, law, prophecy, Gospel, letters, parables, and vision, we seek to understand each passage in its context and through the lens of Jesus Christ.

We believe faithful reading includes study, prayer, community, humility, and a willingness to be shaped by God’s Spirit.
Jesus
We believe Jesus Christ shows us most clearly who God is and what God’s love looks like. In his life, teachings, death, and resurrection, we see a way of grace, mercy, justice, forgiveness, and invitation to new life.

Jesus welcomed the outsider, challenged the powerful, healed the hurting, fed the hungry, and called ordinary people to follow him in making the world more like God’s kingdom. As Christians, we seek to follow his way;  trusting that through him, God is still renewing us, reconciling us, and drawing the whole world toward love, mercy, justice, and peace.

Grace
We believe God’s grace is the beginning of faith. Before we have everything figured out, before we get everything right, before we even know how to seek God, God is already reaching toward us in love. Grace means we are not defined by our worst mistakes, our deepest doubts, or our ability to earn God’s approval. In Jesus Christ, we see a love that forgives, restores, and calls us into new life.

Because we have received grace, we seek to become people who practice grace with humility, compassion, forgiveness, and love for the world around us.
Community
We believe faith is not meant to be lived alone. As Presbyterians, we are part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a larger family of congregations connected by shared worship, mission, service, and a commitment to seeking God’s will together. Our denomination reminds us that the church is bigger than any one person, pastor, congregation, or generation. We are accountable to one another, led by elected elders, and joined with Christians across the country.

The PCUSA allows women and LGBTQ people to serve in ordained leadership positions and recognize and perform same-sex marriages.

Leadership

Elders
Elders are elected by the congregation to help guide the spiritual life and mission of the church. They serve as trusted leaders who pray, listen, make decisions, care for the congregation, and help discern where God is leading us next. In the Presbyterian tradition, Elders remind us that leadership is shared by the whole church, not held by one person alone.

Deacons
Deacons are elected by the congregation to lead the church in ministries of care, compassion, and service. They help us notice and respond to the needs of our members, neighbors, and community, reminding us that the love of Christ is meant to be practiced in tangible ways. In the Presbyterian tradition, deacons help the church become more attentive, merciful, and generous.
Trustees
Trustees are elected by the congregation to help steward the church’s property, facilities, and financial responsibilities. Their work supports the mission of the church by caring for the resources entrusted to us, so that our building, grounds, and assets can serve the congregation and community faithfully for generations to come.
Staff
Staff members serve the congregation by carrying out the daily ministries, operations, and programs of the church. They work alongside pastors, elders, deacons, trustees, and volunteers to help our shared mission take shape through worship, care, formation, communication, hospitality, administration, and service.
